I want bag a few peaks. Advice needed.

Cool Fool. I glissaded when I was younger and much lighter. I wasn't thinking in the context of a beginner, my bad.

Does anyone else carry Acetazolamide ["Diamox"] in their first aid kits? I've had people use it a few times with good results.

I didn't realize the summits were so high. I will definitely take that in to planning. I only meant that the first night I'll camp low. Definitely lower than 11k. I was thinking less than 8k

I discovered Diamox recently when researching periodic breathing during sleep. I used it on a trip along the Highline trail and had no problem sleeping. It was a miracle for me.

OK. I'm reviving this thread. Here's my update,
I'm flying in on the 25th of this month. First day in is a slack day. Pickup rental car, supplies etc. Then following day I'm headed up to Estes Park and I'm going to do a 12 mile loop in two days. (Easy hiking.) the loop is about 8k in elevation. Then I have another slack day. Probably gonna site see in Estes Park. Next day is an in and out hike at about 10k. It's 12 mile day. Next day is a slack day. Then on my final day I'm going try for Torreys and Grays.

It's a bit shore notice, but anyone interested? Would love to have a partner or two.

Regarding altitude sickness. I'm going to echo what Ben said earlier. I've left my home in MI (elevation 650') at 5:00AM and stood on the top of Rendezvous Mtn (10,450') and camped at Marion Lake (elevation 9230') in the same day without issue.
Have fun planning a safe and fun trip to the mountain west.

I can't speak authoritatively on Colorado peaks, but currently Utah's snow line is between 9,500'-10,000'. There is still a ton of backcountry skiing going on in the Uintas. I know Colorado had a pretty good snow year this year as well. I'd be surprised if you aren't getting into snow. But like I said I have never done either of those two peaks.

If you haven't already, you should go post on the Colorado 14'ers forum. I don't think you're going to summit them in late June this year. This winter has been great for Colorado too.

I do have back country reservations for some of the time. And I'm going to do some "dirt bagging" in the National forest for the other times. Yes, some of the trip is going to have to be on the fly. And thank you for the well wishes.

You know I bet West Spanish Peak will be fine then. Cuatro could be too, special area even if they are "just" 13ers. Bison and McCurdy will likely be OK too. Still snow in both areas but IMO far better choices. I too wish you a great trip, sorry to be a downer but you are again coming early in a normal year let alone one like this with all that Spring snow.

Be safe man. Hoping I'm wrong and you can follow your dreams.

Well, just a very quick report. I made the trip out to Colorado a couple of weeks ago and it was a success. I spent a week out in Colorado gradually doing higher and higher hikes until towards the very end of the week I tackled Grays and Torreys peaks.
Perhaps when I'm not swamped with school and work I'll do a proper write-up.
