I always take cheese. In the mountains I can usually get 2 days out of string cheese, 3 days out of a good colby and if you take a real hard cheese like parmesan it will last the whole trip. The first two can get softer and eventually a little greasy. Another tip that may help me is that I take a frozen 1/2 stick of butter and package it all up together to help all of it stay cold. I like having the extra calories and taste bump from the butter since I am not taking commercial backpacking food.How in the world do you guys take cheese? Every time I have tried it it turns disgusting in about 2 hours.
