Does this require a permit to dayhike?Returning to the badlands as it gets dark. Around 12 miles out and back
This hike does not require a permit. Much information on the hike can be found here https://www.thewave.info/YellowRockCode/Map.html. We found the hike to be longer than indicated but we explored off trail and all over yellow rock and fooled around in the river coming back. We camped at the White House campground and drove over to the Paria movie set and hiked out from there. Let me know if I can help in any other way. For day hiking this is as good as you could want. Not one of my better photos but this is sort of your approach to Yellow Rock looking back at it.Does this require a permit to dayhike?
Do you mean this is from Yellow Rock looking back at the trailhead at the movie set?Not one of my better photos but this is sort of your approach to Yellow Rock looking back at it.
Yes I believe this is looking in the general direction of the trailhead, although you cannot see it in this photograph. You will have gained somewhere in the area of 700 ft. of elevation from trailhead to top of Yellow Rock. The trailhead would probably be down in the little v you see in the right center of the photo but I am not sure of that. I was just trying to show the type of terrain on the route after you climb up from river level and approach Yellow RockDo you mean this is from Yellow Rock looking back at the trailhead at the movie set?
To start, it looks like Fiftymile MountainThis one shouldn't be too bad but you gotta guess where it's taken from as well...

You're pretty right on latitude-wiseThe end of 50 mile mountain from the Davis Gulch overland route.
Sorry I couldn't guess closer. The Escalante? Wild, 50 mile looks close in that picture. Were you using a supertelephoto lens?Eh, close enough. It's actually the Escalante in the pic, taken from Pollywog Bench. You're up @Artemus
