Guess the spot: Maps Edition

You were 100th of a second ahead!

OK, here it is - this is a map, but you have to think outside the box (there's a reason the background is black), and size is a clue. The whiteout spot contained one word that would give it away, and it wasn't the name:

A map of the dendritic structure of the human frontal lobes spread out flat?

LOL pretty creative thinking there! No, this is an actual geographic place.

Hint - associated with a famous national park. Once you figure out what it is, you can search on the miles and it will pop right up.

OK, one more hint, black = no light, solid matter. That will probably give it away...

Not in California, nor Utah.

This is the high point of a particular mountain range. I'm heading to this mountain range starting tomorrow, and will cross one road (paved or otherwise) between then and Labor Day. You could say that this range is remote, perhaps even the most remote in the lower 48.

Pretty much gave it away now. First person to guess it can just post the next one :)

Did you do your Absarokas trip yet? Any bears?
Yes to having been on my trip, but no to having seen any bears. Plenty of sign, though. Some pretty fresh. Sounds like your trip will be considerably longer than mine, so I bet your odds are pretty good, despite your track record. :)

I'll have a map up tomorrow morning.

That one word let me find it, as I just searched on Silver Creek, Utah, as I figured it was a creek.

Here's a new one - hint, there aren't any elevation markers, but the relief from the bottom of the canyon to the top is about 2000 feet. That should make it pretty easy.
