Record heat in March? Rising gas prices?
Yeah! It is a great time to go for a long drive to the desert.

Just heating up...

But I'm guessing the feast for the eyes compensated for the heat and gas $$$. Good for the soul!

We attempted to spend spring break doing normal things, like desert camping and hiking. I came down with the cough and cold my kids were recovering from, and we had a tent calamity in the wind, so we had to retreat early. I have spent the last 3 days sleeping as much as my cats.

I had to revisit this thread with recent news that I'll be moving back to Arizona (Tucson) here shortly. Outside of the record breaking (and likely to be the new normal) heat, I am excited for the desert adventures and easy access to such varied geography in every direction.

Except for me hoping to get in a trip to Lake Powell, this was the final planned trip to the desert until autumn.
Cedar gnats in some places up top by Escalante. I had a few bites while inflating my tires back up.
Very light mosquitoes just to be annoying near dusk.
Pockets of deer flies. My daughter started in shorts and got a dozen bites before she switched to pants. I had one get my through my pants, and another through my shirt on my elbow.
Otherwise, the days were hot and the nights required a draped 40d bag after a few hours cooling down.
A few toads were still calling, but nothing like earlier in the season.
