Death Hollow & The Boulder Mail Trail

Hi again Nick - we're still hoping to backpack Boulder Mail Trail but are a bit concerned about whether we'll be able to safely manage the steep descent into Death Hollow with loaded packs. My husband and I are in our 50s - in pretty good shape, although I've recently had some knee issues after a skiing injury. We always use trekking poles, and I'm thinking I could lighten my load by getting rid of water before heading down to DH. If necessary, I'm willing to scoot along on my butt if that will help me stay safe. Any thoughts or advice? Thanks!

If you're capable of walking the 7 miles one-way to get to the descent, you should be just fine getting down it. Everyone is different so do what works for you, but so long as you stay on the right path, it never gets so steep that you should need to scoot on your butt.

Super helpful - this is terrific! I'm pretty sure I can do it then. Thanks so much. Hope you enjoy lots of great hikes this year!
