My wife mentioned recently that she wants to go do a trip in the Canadian Rockies this summer, and that is fantastic. So I've been looking into it a lot. I've never been to the area before, and I'm wondering what experience you all have out there. We'd want to do a 2 or 3 night backpack trip and maybe do some sightseeing on the drive. I'm really intrigued by Jasper, Yoho, Banff, and Kootenay National Parks. I've read what I could find as far as trip reports on here, and it all looks so good (and the parks all seem kind of similar), so it's difficult to choose. Two backpacking trips that caught my attention are the Rockwall Trail (Kootenay) and the Iceline Trail (Yoho). Do any of you have experience with these (or other recommendations?)
Is getting a backcountry permit and reserving campsites difficult/competitive?
Is mid-late July when the high alpine areas become accessible?
Is Banff as crowded as it's made out to be?

Thanks for any input!
