Bag Night Challenge 2017

2017 Total YTD: 9 Nights

Dec 30-Jan 2 > Bears Ears National Monument > 1 Night (in 2017)
Feb 3-5 > St. George boat cleaning trip > 2 Nights
Feb 10-12 > Colton Guard Station, Uintas > 2 Nights
Mar 10-11 > Hurricane Cliffs > 1 Night
Apr 21-24 > The Colorado River in Glen Canyon > 3 Nights

I took the new boat out for the first time this weekend to support the Glen Canyon Institute's Rendezvous. We planned to launch in Farley but getting the boat to the water there was tricky so we ended up putting in at Hite without doing any water testing of the boat first. The Colorado was flowing in excess of 25k CFS and the current was strong. We floated with the group to Farley then spent a night on the lake and another night right on the shore of the river on our way back up to Hite. Lots of nervous moments on this trip, but so worth it. This is where we camped last night on the free flowing Colorado River in Glen Canyon.

Nervous moments due to current? So, the river was going 6 mph and the boat can go 6.5??? For some things we are going to miss that 200hp engine, arent' we?

Sure I am ! The No Man's was... The xmas trip ended a day early due to weather. - on December 31.

What about the trip that we met up with you on in February?

A wide variety of nervous moments. Muddy water, getting stuck on silt bars, motor issues, tumbleweed in prop, gas running out, you name it. I'm feeling sort of happy that the big boat hasn't sold yet....

Welcome home! Any injuries?
Nope..... Couple Band-Aids and ibuprophen handed out. Fire that burned into town in Naples was wild....Urban interface at the finest. Showed me the problems Utah is going to have eventually

I grew up in Ft Myers, FL (just north of Naples). Thanks for helping.

See any snakes to go with the gators? When I was a kid we just saw water moccasins, now it sounds like the whole Everglades is filled with 20 foot pythons :)

Python are a kill on sight....Leo shot it. Moccasin was dead on road

I had an awesome trip to Zion a week and a half ago with a friend. I finally backpacked the East Rim trail, and made the side trips out to Cable Deertrap Mountains. The trail to Deertrap Mountain, incidentally, is quite a bit longer than advertised, so our last day was quite long, but well worth it.

How was it camping in Jones Hole Randy? I love that hike, and doing an overnighter there has been on my to do list for a while.
