Total YTD: 5 Nights

Jan 17-19 > Solo at Lake Powell > 2 Nights
March 5-8 > Trachyte Creek > 3 Nights

First backpacking trip on the new knee. It did great! Only about 14 miles, but it was tough walking through a flooded, narrow slot then miles of granite boulders. Then this little gem on the hike out today. Would have been a lot sweeter had it not ended at the ER again though. See x-ray below that I hiked 4 miles out with (including lots of climbing) before a 5 hour drive to the ER. :(

14 miles on your new knee's first time out is great. Did you take a fall and break your pinky? While that sucks, I'd still chalk it up as a win if your knee didn't give you any problems.

Yeah, definitely still a win. It turned out to be just dislocated but I almost had to have surgery to fix it because no one at the hospital could get it to snap back into place (fun to watch BTW). Judging by how my body feels today, I'm thinking 8-10 miles would have been a better number for this first trip, but I'm still stoked about it. The tough parts were more because my body is out of shape than because the new knee couldn't hack it. I guess some easier terrain would have been smart as well...

i dislocated my pinky 18 years ago (dang...has it been that long!) back in my good ole football days catching a punt. the trainers looked at it and said i need it put back into place. so i had a teammate grab it and give it a yank and it went right back in place. taped it up and finished practice. it's still quite a bit larger than my other pinky still today.
so maybe you just needed a big Polynesian offensive lineman to give yours a pull to fix it!

Ha! I actually tried pretty hard to reset it myself when it happened. I had no idea it was just dislocated, it just looked like something was sideways inside there. I pulled as hard as I could but it just kept going back to it's gnarly, mangled position. The pain wasn't really hitting me yet, but I think my compadres had a hard time watching that. I sure wish it had worked.

Good God! Be careful out there Nick. If you keep heading to the ER after your trips you may have to limit them to your backyard. Lol! Seriously though I'm glad you're okay.

Have to put it back the way it came apart.......... still suxs

Originally I wanted to stay until Friday, but I got really sick with a sinus infection and nowhere in the park I could buy ibuprofen which made most of the time really miserable. :(
