I upgraded my XTerra with a nice cargo box for all the outdoor toys like camping gear and ski
Now I need to add some stickers to it

We've had our Outback just about five years now. It deftly handled it's gnarliest drive ever today. When I was in the thick of it, I was really wishing I had put beefier tires on it the last time I bought new tires. This is from after we had passed through the rough spots and I realized it has been five years.

Nice! I kind of wish my tires were older when I bought my outback so that I could feel justified upgrading to some beefier tires. Do you have a full size spare?

I don't. I had high aspirations for getting one, getting AT tires, installing skid plates, getting a lift, etc. when I got this car. But then I realized I don't use it in those kinds of conditions nearly often enough to justify that. Haha. Probably a once a year type thing since the roads to most places I've been have been pretty good.

I used x mode legitimately for the first time today to go slowly down some steep rocky parts, and it was awesome. Can't believe how well that system works.

Yeah, I put skid plates on mine, which didn't cost much, but I will need to wait until the tires need replacement before getting the ATs. I'm pretty sure there is no lift in my future though.

Axolotl Lakes area? My wife and I were there a couple weeks back. We went in on the Butcher Gulch road from Virginia City. That road would no doubt do some testing on Subaru skid plates and you would also get a free pin stripping job.

What constitutes a backcounty trail/road is so subjective that there isn't going to be any vehicle that is demonstratingly better at everything than another. I still like the "off-road" ability of our JK but it is a piece of crap in just about every other aspect. We are looking forward to see what Ford has actually come up with if they ever manage to sell the real Bronco. The Badlands/Sasquatch is looking pretty attractive to us.

Yep! I'd guess 3/4-7/8 of the dirt road was totally fine. It was probably the last mile or so that was bad. A handful of steeper sections with bigger jagged rocks protruding from the road surface, and then a long, deeply rutted stretch as well. My tires were my biggest concern by far.

When are they supposed to release the new Bronco? I've seen the not so cool Bronco Sport on the road this summer, but the real ones look so much better.

Really? Why do you say that? I have been driving at JK for over 10 years and have had no problems with either of the ones I've owned, and I put A LOT of miles on them, both on and off-road.

I once had a Jeep Cherokee. It caught on fire on the way to the dealer to trade it in for a Toyota. :)

Immaculate care and only 85k miles.

Maybe I just know what you should expect when you buy a vehicle like a Jeep:

You’ll deal with excessive wind noise, rattles, squeaks, and other irritations, especially during highway travel. In the J.D. Power dependability study for 2017, owners called out these and other ride issues.
