Better to have it and not need it ;)

And I have to remind everyone that this guy means what he says. From his earlier post:

And this guy too:

I agree. But it's also more fun to need it and have it, than to not need it. And even less fun still, to not even know why you might ever want to need it .

Now I want to see Nick and audraiam working it....

So, i'm down in green river and my minivan just took a shit. I will now be buying a new car tomorrow. instead of having an adventure in the canyons. thanks for all of the info, guys, i'll be using it to full advantage... new car here i come!!

it decided to not start anymore. again. and died in the most dramatic way, in a cloud of smoke and shaking idling, then trying to turn over with a click and thunk, then just not turning over any more. and the catalytic converter is gone on it, too. salt lake mechanic #1 deemed it safe to drive to CO and back with the catalytic converter not working quite right (he was wrong), green river mechanic #2 deems that it is now "something in the engine". oh, good.

in other news, i am looking at the forester, the outback, or the Rav4. anyone have any opinions on those? not the off road vehicle i would love, but i can't afford anything more burly right now. i need something that will get me to work and to sketchy trail heads and up the canyons in the snow, and even if it won't hold much gear will let me tie some stuff on top of it. i'm really going to miss my minivan.

A catalytic converter only serves to clean up your exhaust gasses and really doesn't do much of anything once the engine is warm. A car with a blown cat is perfectly safe to drive, it just might be a bit worse for the environment.

I'm an advocate of Subarus, but the turbocharged models tend to be more reliable than the N/A ones. Late 90s Outbacks like to blow head gaskets but 2002+ are pretty rock-solid. Manual transmission Subarus are also a true 50/50 power split from front to rear, while automatics are more like most SUV AWD systems with a 90/10 split until slippage occurs.

I wish I had seen this sooner. I was in Green River about 6 pm on my way to the Roost. Good luck getting it straightened out. If you need a ride back to SLC, I'll be coming back through on Sunday afternoon. I can't believe I have a signal out here right now...

I've been so busy hanging out with her i haven't even been on the interwebs! here she is! she's sized appropriately for my stature (i can't see anyone over 5' fitting into the "back seats") but so far 4wd is working like a champ in the sandy south and snowy north canyon roads :D

also, Nick did something change? i thought that you could upload photos directly to the BCP server? i had to put these on flicker then upload. no more photo hosting?

It's working fine for me... what did it do when you tried? Are your images larger than 16MP that you're trying to upload (4k x 4k pixels)? Anyone else having problems uploading?

Seems to be working for me. But I have noticed that I'm not getting email notifications for new posts...I can't find a setting to fix that.

Uploading appears to be fine for me...

Wagon.jpg

Took the wagon on her maiden voyage with the beefier A/T wheel and tire setup. Did well in the sand and the extra piece of mind not worrying about blowouts from jagged rocks was nice.

under insert image it only gives me an "enter image url" option. and now i see that my flickr images didn't last very long. what am i doing wrong? wah!!
