Album Arches & Natural Bridges

Like I say, the problem with all the tree cover in the East is that when you're far enough away to fit the bigger arches in a pic, you're too far away to see the whole thing.

That was the middle of October. Nice shot of Hopewell.
I wish I knew you were in the area, we could have met up for a day

Regardless, Rock Bridge Arch was my favorite at Red River Gorge.

This is Fern Bridge from Carter Caves SP. That whole place is surreal. Everything seems almost unnaturally pretty, and they have *everything* from cave tours and bolted climbing routes to monstrous natural bridges and putt-putt.
It was almost suspicious. I felt like I'd turned into Hansel and Gretel, and happened upon a gingerbread house in the woods.

^^That sucker is almost a double arch. Technically it may be, since there's space between it's "twin" and the cliffline, with water running behind it.

I live in Lexington and try to make it to RRG at least once a month.

You found what I know as Hopewell Arch. It has been a while, but I think Hopewell has a double arch structure, but the upper part is a lot smaller than the the Backpacker photo implies. I think that photo is heavily distorted from stitching a pano and trying to fit everything into the photo.

Carter Caves is a pretty cool State Park. The cave tours are great with kids and there is some nice hiking. I need to make a point to get back there.
 
Fake gets my vote, like much of what we see on the internet.
I often read reviews of gear I own, and familiar trails, out of curiosity, where the authors have clearly never been to the places, or used the gear, and give themselves away most obviously to anyone who has. Don't know what they gain from that...

Anyway, this is Natural Bridge at Carter Caves. Like two of the other bridges there, though less so, it is reminiscent of an abandoned railroad tunnel, but for its placement.
Plus, it is HUGE. I think a 3 lane road could easily run through it, and it has a curve that makes it impossible to photograph in its entirety.

Like some caves and rockhouses, it's one of those places that make you wonder what you're walking around on when at ground level.
