2015/2016 All things snow thread

My wife and I headed up to lake Blanche to snowshoe on Saturday. We had a few friends with us but they turned back after the first mile or so. We picked up our pace after that and did great for the next mile until the snow got deeper and less packed down. You could tell that most people turned around by the end of mile two. The last third of the hike was steep and deep but the views at the top were very rewarding. I'd like to get out more this winter, especially since we finally have a decent amount of snow.

You can't post that without a pic of house of fire in the snow!
it was not covered in snow, the snow was only on the edges, everything else was melted away. I guess with that name no snow will stick to the ground very long :)

I will post a micro trip report maybe later tonight

But here you go, look at the very right edge

Very nice. A good lesson in passive solar design!
I have been there in the winter, but never with so much snow. You were fortunate to see it this way.

Today started out bright and sunny. At least more than last Sunday. Was invited to ride Mesa Falls again with a different group. This time I ended up with a flat and told my group to go on without me. Eventually I did change the flat but never did catch back up with my group until they were headed back to the vehicles. They went further up the road past the Upper Falls and I had just missed them after changing my flat.

Brook and I road the cross country ski trail. That was one hell of a work out. And this is where I punctured my tire. Riding in the snow and I get my first flat in ages!!

I finally found them!

Another fun day on the bike!

Does ice fishing count as all things snow? My daughter (Matti) and I decided to go ice fishing up to Daniel's Reservoir just Northwest of Malad Friday morning. We pulled four (cutthroat trout) through the ice and all were just shy of the 20 inch minimum so back in they went. I couldn't get her to hold one of them for a picture because they are all yucky and slimy . Not a bad way to spend a few hours with my little girl. Just in case you were wondering she is fishing with a Sponge Bob Square Pants pole while I was rocking the Scooby-Doo pole...:)

Last Saturday I took my new XC skies up to Herriman State Park. We skied into Jones Cabin, listened to Rangers Too play, skied at night some more. Had dinner in Island Park. Snow days are numbered!!!
