Nice trip. Younts and Thoroughfare are supposed to be the most remote spots in the entire lower 48, at least as measured by distance to any road.

Anyone ever been there? I'm very curious about it. It's quite a bit further east; if you take the Crouse Canyon Road all the way to the Allen Draw, there's a jeep trail (according to Caltopo anyway) that heads up Dead Horse Draw. It looks like it ends before getting all the way to the pass...

@Dan; in the video, you mentioned you were heading to "Crater meadows." By that do you mean the area around Crater Lake? I'd love to see some pics of that area. It seems to be poorly represented on the internet; probably because hardly anyone seems to go there.

Does that Oweep Creek area have a name? I've heard it called informally Oweep Basin, but I wonder if "officially" it's just the upper NE extension of the Lake Fork Basin.

A guy I know claims to have crossed the canyon on horseback using a narrow horse trail that goes down one side of the canyon and up the other. Anyone know if this is doable, or how difficult it would be, or better yet; anyone know where this horse trail is (my friend who did it several years...

I think you might also have stumbled across one of the locations used in the BBC prehistoric documentary Before the Dinosaurs. The second portion, which takes place in the Silurian, was obviously filmed at Lake Powell, and features some ancient fish crossing a rock bar into an isolated pool...

Not to put too fine a point on it, but this site ain't exactly Backpacker. And for that matter, this exact location was mentioned as a worthy side-hike on another loop in the same range in an article on Backpacker a while ago. Granted; it didn't feature this lake as the particular destination...

There was a trip report last fall that included this place, among others in the same range. Given the nature of that range, I don't think telling people where it is is likely to change the fact that it's going to be sparsely hiked to.

None of it is in other mountain ranges. The Uintas go east all the way to Cross Mountain. There is a fair bit of road-walking out east, though. If you can call those kinds of rinky-dink forest service tracks roads.
