    Uintas Highline Trail 2012

I've never done the Highline, but I've never been to the Wind River Range; so I'm good with either. I'm just keeping Winds on the table 'cause Cody and I had talked about it earlier this year. Stoked!!

    Uintas Highline Trail 2012

Ok that's a firm date; July 20th through no later than the 29th. Now were we firm on the Highline Trail or was there some mention of the Wind River range...? And of course you're invited Nick. Anyone else want to come?

    Uintas Highline Trail 2012

Crap, I have to be in Cedar City July 30th - August 3rd for work. So July 23-29 look like my best option... I could probably even get out the weekend before so with both weekends July 20-29...

    Uintas Highline Trail 2012

I have drill July 14 and 15. I can't miss work the week of July 16-19. But the week of 23-26 and that weekend 27-29 look reasonable... Or the following week and weekend 30th - Aug 5th... I have drill August 17-19.

What is on your wish list?

It's great for longer trips where you might set a base camp and use this smaller pack for a summit day or side canyon...

What is on your wish list?

I have a version of this pack from a couple years ago, and it's great. I use it as a stuff sack for sleeping bag (with room for poly-pjs and a pillow too) when carrying a bigger pack, and then use it for a day pack when smaller is needed. Mine has a couple more pockets than this, but I love the...

    Uintas Highline Trail 2012

Seems like Cody and I have been throwing this around for years. It seems like every May I start looking at the calendar and I see my summer weekends just disappearing. I have got to do more backpacking this year...

National Parks Pass - Free to Active Military Members

I heard this on NPR this afternoon. Beginning this Saturday, Armed Forces Day, the National Parks Service will be offering a free ANNUAL PASS to active members of the U.S. Military. This offer does not apply to veteran former members, only active personnel and their families. The families part...

    The new backcountrypost logo

I really like the cairn idea too. But not the cairn in a circle or in a box; I like the cairn on top of a curved line:

Backpacking pot charges USB while you cook.

Yeah, I don't tend to cook very long either, but I think it's a unique idea and I'll definitely be interested to read reviews once this thing comes out.

Backpacking pot charges USB while you cook.

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1203647021/the-powerpot The PowerPot transforms the heat from cooking into electricity with no moving parts. This is done using a technology called thermoelectric power generation. Thermoelectric technology was discovered in the early 1800’s, but found no...

    Backpacking Checklist

Memory card in the aid kit made me think of something I keep in the aid kit; extra contact lenses. I keep contact solution, a contacts case, and 1 spare in a small fleece stuff sack that usually comes in the sleeping bag with me to prevent freezing. I also carry a signal mirror connected to a...

    New Boots

We haven't nailed down the route yet. We're still trying to nail down the size of group to see if we'll have a second vehicle. The talk right now is down Death via Mail trail and hike Escalante out east to the bridge on the highway. Cody mentioned he got some advice from you recently, so he's...

    REI Dividends

$12.53. The problem is that Recreation Outlet in American Fork is only 2 blocks from my house. So all those little last minute things; webbing, or maps, or books, or kid-size headlamp are being purchased there.
