Great places to live for outdoors lovers

Having grown up in Northern Utah, Cleirfield to be exact, I had a hard time moving when I got took a job here in Denver. Personaly, I would't live anywhere else. The political climate here in Colorado is great and the people are some of the best folks I have been around. I am still close enough...

Looking for New Music To listen To....

If your into Will Oldham then I would suggest takin a look at Jason Molina/Songs: Ohia/Magnolia Electric Co. Jason Molina is the main artist and his band used to be called Songs:Ohia and is now Magnolia Electric Co. One of my favorite artists. Some of my other favs along the alt country line are...

    SAR Fees?

Utah should have the same insurance card we have here in Colorado. Crap, 95% of the people who buy them would be tourists visiting Zion and whatnot, and they would never even be back to use it if needed. IMO a state that bills itself as an outdoor mecca should cover the cost of any rescue...

    Aron Ralston's Wall Message

I thought he might have done something like that although it would have been good reminder to folks as they went past it.

    Aron Ralston's Wall Message

I rewatched 127 hours the other day and as usual, it was awsome. I noticed that in the movie, Aron scratched a RIP message for himself on the wall next to his location but hadn't heard that it is really there. Has anyone seen it, maybe even have a picture of it?

    Backcountry beverages

I use a Platypus soft bottle for all my hooch needs. The 32 oz. fits a 1/5th of scotch so I usually bring one or two of those with me. After they are empty they roll up into almost nothing.

Where do you buy your gear?

REI, Backcountry.com, Local stores. I have five or six REi's within 30 minutes of me here in the Boulder area so I Usually try to go in for my buys, I hate waiting on the mail.

What kind of stove do you use

Jet boil Sol is my favorite, and after they came out with the french press for coffee, it never leaves my pack. I figure if I pack in a whisperlite or something along those lines, I still have to pack in a pot and then, I don't save enough room to justify not haveing a killer cup of joe while...

    Any camping at Causey Reservoir?

We used to canoe up the Southeast finger yearly to a spot at the end of it. There are actually two spots there, one with the cross for a deceased individual and one right next to it. It is one of my favorite places to camp. There is also another spot about midway up the finger on the South side...

Dog abandoned at 14,000 feet, rescued 9 days later

Scew the owner. It's not like he was on Everest maybe he might have had to spend a crappy night in the cold but for a family member, I'd do just about anything. I think about how sad my pooches would be to watch me head off down the trail and leaving them behind. One look at that dogs face in...

    Has anyone used a Hammock?

I have been using the Enos Double Nest and loving it. I keep it in my day pack and use it as a place to kick it with the wife on long day hikes. Sleeping in it is still kinda sketchy to me, I feel like a nice meal hanging right in that face of bears. I have been thinking about putting it up...

    Golite sale

I was looking for a link to my rain jacket for another thread and found myself on the Golite site. They are having a huge sale on all kinds of stuff. Everything they make is pretty close to ultralight and I have had nothing but good experances with there gear. REI doesn't carry them so they fly...

I love my Golite: http://www.golite.com/Ms-Kenai-Pertex-25-Layer-Hardshell-P722.aspx Also noticed this sucker is only $69. I paid $200 and would pay that again in a hart beat. Actually I just noticed everything on the site is on a huge sale! They are opening a new outlet store in Boulder so...

    BLM mismanagement

I was passing through Rifle on my way home from a Utah visit last weekend and noticed how many rigs, tanks, and roads there were. My prior job was with a frack pump manufacturer, I spent a lot of time at fracking sights and in good, old school oil country like Texas. People who think that oil...

    Outdoor Retailer Summer Market

Heck ya, if Utah keeps handing land over to the oil and gas companies, then maybe next year the OR will be here in Denver and I can make it. Seriously though, I would be there if I was in the area.

Good car camping spot in the Uintas

Sweet, thanks for the info. It sounds like my luck has changed, the wife has decided that she would rather spend the three days backpacking (with no push from me of course ;)) in the Uintas or somewhere close to that area. I have been through the trip reports and there are a ton that look...
