    Englestead Hollow - May 2014

Canyoneering season has begun (granted I was doing canyons in the winter, but we'll go with what the canyonistas call the canyon season ;) This time I took off with some friends for Englestead Hollow in Zion. Talk about a rush! Original post from www.mountain-dude.blogspot.com (there's more...

    Keyhole Canyon - May, 2014

I'll add that tons of tourists do hike a bit up from the bottom (myself being one of those tourists). You just have to avoid those deep pools @Nick talked about.

Yep that's the spot. That little waterfall I have pictures of in this thread are right there at that pool.

    Keyhole Canyon - May, 2014

It just got so annoying! So I want something...that is way too expensive for me though...ugh...I guess it's just in and out of the dry bag til then.

    Keyhole Canyon - May, 2014

I have just a regular dry bag...i was thinking something that was more accessible, but just as waterproof (probably not possible). when you're in and out of water in these canyons it gets really time consuming and annoying to take your gear in and out.

    sad news from the Wave.

I think it gets confusing because these tourists are expecting there to be a trail. If they realized there is no trail and basic route finding skills (looking around as you go for landmarks), they'd be fine when they got "off trail" I went with a group a few weeks ago who got off trail on the...

    Keyhole Canyon - May, 2014

I haven't been able to get into Zion National Park for awhile to do a canyon in a while (busy with school, work and projects). I got my chance to jump into Keyhole Canyon though! This was one of the first time I set out to do a canyon to try and take my time and get some good photos in the...

He must've gotten way off course. They have someone from the BLM out there to hike it everyday.

    March Weekend in St. George

Love it! two of my favorite hikes down here. I agree, the offseason is the best time to visit Kanarraville (unless of course you're going for photos of people).

    Hammock vs. tent camping

So I never use a tent. i have a tarp that I take with me to set up for weather. Gets rid of a lot of weight just going with a tarp (bit more work to find a suitable spot like @Bob said). The good thing is when i'm going to an area I know there are trees I can use for a hammock, i also have a...

In search of Everett Ruess - Davis Gulch

I agree with what @Nick said. It is very possible to do as a day hike, just better for exploring as a 2 day trip. Using the stock trail makes it super easy to get in and out without anything technical.
