Guess the spot: Utah Edition

There ya go! White Baldy has a pretty distinctive look from the north so I thought this was a fair one. You are up.

Also a fun peak.

It has defeated me multiple times. On the day I took that picture we were going to walk straight up the face, but it was icy and we hadn't brought crampons and we didn't feel like sitting around waiting for it to soften up. Another time I climbed from White Pine and quite close to the summit ran into scrambling problems that I didn't feel I could deal with. Maybe I'll try the other ridge next time, from Red Pine, or maybe the AF side.

It's pretty straightforward from Red Pine, moreso than from White Pine. Never done it from AF; hopefully next year.

I was by myself when climbing from White Pine and it felt like I had been on rocks and boulders forever, and I'm not great at routefinding, so was pretty happy to give up on this one.

From Red Pine do you just head up to the notch overlooking AF (I've done that a couple times...) and then head straight up the ridge? I remember it looked a little dodgy, but it's been a while since I was last in that spot.

Yes exactly - above Upper Red Pine Lake, head south to the lowest saddle along the AF ridgeline. Once up there, you stay pretty close to the ridgeline itself. It's definitely a scramble, but the rock quality is excellent. There's some exposure but I don't remember it being particularly scary, because the rock was so good. South side of the ridge is generally better.

Crickets... this photo was taken just above where a major tributary flows into the pictured watercourse.
