Yellowstone reservations from Lone Star to Bechler area

I was thinking the credit card charge will hit before I get the e-mail confirmation, so I'm watching like a hawk. Fingers crossed.

I’ve got reservations in the SW-ish corner. On one trip I start at Lone Star Trailhead and go East and then South, and then back. On another trip I go from north of Lewis Lake TO Shoshone Lake, which is also in the SW-ish quadrant of the park. I have another reservation at Ice Lake which is near the center of the park, and my final reservation I is Delaney Creek to Shoshone Lake. That’s South central to sort of SW. I used to live near Lake Superior—I guess I’m now drawn to lakes. :)

I hope to be able to do a hike on the Blacktail area, and Hellroaring, without reservations. Late-ish in the season, I hope to lose be able to hike to the upper Pebble Creek area, and maybe by Ribbon Lake. I have had a really good time telling people that the ugly site I stayed at last year gave me a view of a 200 foot high waterfall from inside my tent. Those that don’t go, have no idea what those that do go are missing.

I'm hoping my Thorofare region confirmation comes through this week. I've been planning this trip since I watched Joey's Thorofare video from a couple of years ago.

I received my permit for Little Firehole Meadow, but they did move our campsite to a different location for the last night which will add mileage to my planned day hike for that day. :(

I was surprised how difficult it was to work out my itinerary as late as September. I figured the park would be pretty well cleared out by then. We set out on September 3rd and finish on the 13th.

A lot of people go for the elk rut in September. Good chance to see wolves and bear looking for wounded animals. Several years ago there was a bison that died from a fight with another male. We saw a pack of wolves and 3 or 4 grizzlies trying to get in on the meal. It was easy to find, just had to park a mile away and walk past all the cars and tourists already there.

Funny, I've been to the Thorofare three times (twice in August and once in September) and never had an issue with dates or campsites with one caveat - While we originally got what we asked for when submitting the permit request, when we showed up for the official permit, they moved our campsite down the trail a couple of miles due to an active fire at the original site.
