This hike has been on my hit list for about two years! Having once driven to the trail head but having been stopped by rain (we fled to get off the road before it became impassible and barely made it out before the deluge) I have been drooling to scratch it off my list. A couple weeks ago I finally did!
Willis Creek is about the best family friendly slot I have ever hiked. My daughter loved playing in the water, splashing me, trying to catch lizards (she actually caught one by trapping its tail against the slick rock) and looking at tons of spiders (during the hike she said "Daddy, I love spiders" really who loves spiders is my question?)
We hiked to the last section of narrows and turned around at Averett Canyon (I read there is a way to scramble up and around the dry fall at Averett does anybody know about this or done it?)
A fun day and fun hike. I am not quite sure it was worth the roughly three hour drive but if anyone is in the area for other things I would highly recommend stopping and hiking willis creek. Now I want to combine Bull Valley Gorge and Willis but that will have to be another trip down the road.
