@regehr I do not think I was exactly in the magical time before the outrageous bugs in the Uintas...
However, I had a few days of wonderful lower elevation truck camping.

The lady at Bear River Lodge's general store said the bugs had not been bad yet, so maybe the bugs haven't hit. Maybe I was just lucky.

Only a handful of mosquitoes would attack in late morning and early evening, and then disappear. We made a steak dinner one night, and the flies massed out of nowhere, but otherwise it was quite pleasant -bug wise-. It was worse Sunday morning than previous mornings as we packed up.

The flowers are doing very well.

In one canyon, there were miles of aspens chock full of columbine, paintbrush, and all the other varieties I cannot name.

Some yellow paintbrush on some drier slopes on Poison Mountain.
