Wild Horse Window Rock Art

Thanks, Phillipe. I feel quite confident in calling it fake now that you and Tom have confirmed that you saw it before it was up. I was actually looking at that photo on Steffen's website trying to tell if the art was in that photo!

I'm of the opinion that a fake panel like this should be wiped clean if there is zero doubt about it's authenticity. Anyone else agree?

Just be careful. I think let nature take its course. Its already degrading. Wiping suspect rock art is a slippery slope and a dangerous practice.

What would be fun is if the artist ever came forward. Their hoax would have taken some time.

That would be nice to hear from the source. And believe me, I'm careful in suggesting it maybe should get wiped clean. I wasn't even willing to call it fake until more proof was available because of the fear of any potential real art getting defaced. With zero doubt that it's a fake, I would still support wiping it clean, although I'm certainly not going to do it. I mean what's the difference between some guy scrawling "Jimmy wuz here" across the wall and this?

I went out there Sunday. I followed some relatively fresh tracks in the snow that led me up on the wrong side of Horseshoe Canyon before I realized my mistake. Do I have you to thank for that? :)

Yes. But in my defense, I was just wandering around aimlessly, well behind the group and not leading the way. :)

That's funny. As we were coming down into the wash, I was talkative, so I wasn't really paying much attention, and I just followed some footprints to the left and then up onto the slickrock. We got about halfway up the ridge, and I pulled out my phone to check the GPS...but the compasses on both of our GPSs were going crazy. I looked around and wondered if all the red spots in the sandstone were iron deposits, because our compasses weren't good for anything. But we kept climbing and got up to the top of the ridge, and I realized my mistake. So we started cutting across the slickrock, and I came up on tracks in the snow again...backtracking exactly the same way we were! That's when I looked at my wife and said, "I'll bet these tracks are Nick's, and I'll bet he took the wrong side of the canyon, too."

I then took a picture of my little baby foot in a grown-up's footprint:

Oh wait, were those on the south side of Wild Horse Canyon? if so, yes, they are mine, but they were from the day before!
