Which direction for Boulder Mail Trail - Lower Death Hollow - Escalante?

If one wanted to start and end near Escalante, would this triangle be best done clockwise or counter-clockwise and why?

If you hike it clockwise you are going with the current instead of against it in Death Hollow, which I find more pleasant. The Escalante River section is more open and the flow is very low this season, so either direction is about the same. You're more likely to encounter deeper pools in Death Hollow.

The slippery narrows spot in Death Hollow is a bit easier to ascend than descend. I've found that hands-and-knees is best through there anyhow, in the name of better traction.

Either should be totally doable, it's just whatever you prefer. It's a great little weekend, have fun!
