What to see between here an Portland?

I'm getting a little pressure to plan a trip up to Portland. Anyone familiar with the route along I-84? Looking for sweet spots to stop & camp, stretch my legs, etc. I'd also be interested in things to see/do in the Portland area.

A few obvious ones:
Multnomah Falls
Hagerman Fossil Beds

Never been up to the great Northwest, so help would be awesome!

There are some fisheries along the Columbia River that can be a really cool stop. You can see the salmon swimming the ladders as well as pools full of gigantic sturgeon and rainbow trout. Aside from the obvious stuff, that's all I know. The closest I've camped to that are is along the Deschutes River east of Mt Hood.

You could stop in Twin Falls and check out Shoshone Falls! There's tons of places to check out in the Columbia River Gorge from the Dalles to Portland (especially if you like water falls!!!).
