I will try to bore you with one more trip report from last summer. In August of 2015 I had the opportunity to go with some very nice people to the Beaver Creek Drainage on the North Slope of the Uintas. Trailhead starts at West Fork Beaver Creek trailhead which takes you up to Gilbert Lake and has great views of Gilbert Peak the third highest peak in Utah. This drainage is the drainage just East of the ever popular Henrys Fork which takes you to Kings Peak.
Gilbert Lake is 9.3 miles in from the trailhead. We found a nice camp about 7 miles in as it tends to gets a bit windy when you get up near Gilbert Lake.
View near camp of West Beaver Creek with Gilbert Peak in the background. All photos taken with my very fancy Iphone.

Day two went for a lovely nature hike.

Sat and watched a cow moose here for a while at Gilbert Lake. Then went back to camp and got the others to head back up to Gilbert Lake and GR151 which is a 1/2 mile above Gilbert Lake to do some fishing.
This is GR151

Had a great time fishing the stream between Gilbert Lake and GR151. When we arrived at GR151, such a beautiful name for a lake, there were two cow moose in the lake and three bull moose on the other side. We had a great time watching the moose while eating lunch. Behind the moose we had the pleasure of watching some elk running by.

A 1/2 mile above GR151 sits the also beautifully named GR152 catchy huh.

View of GR151 from above. You can never get tired of saying or typing a beautiful name like that.

Day three fished in the morning in the stream by camp and then headed out. Another great trip for the books exploring a beautiful area of the Uintas. Hiked 20 miles total. Saw deer, elk, and moose. Had a great time fishing and enjoying the views.

Boy, GR151 is beautiful for a lake. I may have to visit it. Do you have a geolocation or map snippet for those not in the know of such lake names?

It's in the beaver creek drainage. N 40 degrees 50' 15" W 110 degrees 19' 26"

9.7 miles in from the trailhead. Has brook trout in it. Best luck was on the stream coming out of GR151 and the stream coming out of Gilbert.

Was most of the trail in "tree tunnel" as is the first half of the Henry's Fork - the drainage just west of Beaver that is one of the standard approaches to King's?

Looks like that big north ridge/sloping plateau might be a good way to climb Gilbert too, eh?

Yes that's the one Looks very familiar. Yes it does start out in the trees and then opens up into nice meadows Cordell Anderson has a good trip report on it on his website. http://www.cordellmandersen.com/2010/08/trip-5-2010-west-beaver-creek-gilbert.html
One of the guys I went with said he had climbed to Gilbert Peak many years ago going up that North Slope I couldn't get anyone to join me so didn't try it. I did find something about it on summit post.org but they mostly recommend going up gilbert peak from henrys fork and only mention it as an option with no details. http://www.summitpost.org/gilbert-peak/151828

Cordell! He is famous. I don't need his trip report though, I've got yours. ;)

This was fun to re-live the Gilbert Lake area! Gilbert Lake was my first time ever in the Unitas and only my 2nd every multi-day backpacking trip! Looks like you have much better weather than we had (it rained on us everyday and hailed one day). I've never seen more moose anywhere in my life than in that drainage! Way cool! Lots of good fishing too! Thanks for sharing!

Very lovely. There's a PDF somewhere online with a Forest Service inventory of Uinta lakes. I find the names a bit more palatable if I speak the drainage name (GR for Green, in this case) instead of the abbreviation. And with so many lakes, unique names are difficult.

i have a copy of the dwr lakes of the high uintas pamphlet and the 2000 Utah fishing guide and for that particular drainage there aren't many lakes with real names. Most just have the GR with a number like GR151 and Gr152 but I agree with @ashergrey even green 151 sounds better. Usually the abbreviation in front of the number makes sense for the drainage but I can't figure out what GR even stands for. Nonetheless a beautiful drainage to enjoy.

Thank you. I enjoyed reading your cold and stormy trip report before going to the area last August.

Looks like a nice area, and I get the impression there are few people there.
Yes it was a beautiful area and nice place to go to get away from the crowds. We saw two other small groups at the trailhead but once we left there we didn't run into anyone else.
