I've consumed some really nasty water with the pen and never bothered with the threads. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I'm pretty discerning about my water sources, but I've pulled from lakes with ducks and geese swimming just a few feet away, and I've never done more than run my hand around the threads to wipe off the water.

I can't tell if you're joking Art. Do I need to look into BCP shot glasses now? o_O

10 year old scotch from the Isle is not a joking matter, mister. :disagree:
I couldn't go with a new shot glass and leave my sweetie's behind for that wind-down toast to the day's walkabout. Carried it 82 miles through the Winds.

So that is what happened to you Keith.....

Sorry for the Steripen tangent but is there any issues with water on the threads of the water bottle? When chemically treating water I tried to get some bleach or iodine on the threads. Does the pen kill the bugs that collect on the outer rim/threads of the bottle? Maybe I am just being OCD but I thought I would ask.

Saw a video where the guy would turn his bottle upside-down and unscrew the lid just enough to let a little water through to flush the threads after he had sterilized it.
