I found this dead ponderosa a pretty apt mascot of Lower Death Hollow on a trip through it back in '23. I was (and still am, looking at these pictures again) fascinated by the contrast in color between it, the white walls, and the deep blue skies on a perfectly clear day.

I've been helping some botany folks protect whitebark pines in the Central Cascades of WA. We're attaching packets emitting beetle pheromone that deter the bugs from invading the trees.
Here's a few of the more stately trees, by Cascades standards.
