Iʻm in love!!! The ōhia trees are flowering!!
Ōhia trees are among the first species to settle on a lava field. They grow extremely slowly, and sadly, many trees are dying because of a fungal disease - Rapid Ōhia Death.
This beautiful tree was about 10-12 feet tall and probably 40 years old.

Wonderful! I love all of autumn, and I also enjoy the magnificent stuff from Alberta.

Hopefully the week after next I will get to enjoy some Larches, and at very least some PNW color...

I always end up taking lots of tree photos on our fall desert trips. In addition to their often photogenic "poses", it might have something to do with their relative scarcity, and my life spent working with wood. Here are some from our recent trip south.
