To Do in 2015

I have a lot to do this year.
  1. Salt Creek in Canyonlands (thanks for the cool TR I've seen from @Nick and @IntrepidXJ)
  2. Grand Gulch
  3. Full San Juan River trip
  4. Cottonwood Canyon (the one west of Kanab)
  5. Goblin Valley (I've never been)
  6. Reflection Canyon in Glen Canyon
  7. Heaps and Imlay in Zion
  8. The Jug of Salome Creek in Tonto National Forest
  9. A Big Wall climb in Zion
  10. A billion places on the Grand Staircase and on Cedar Mesa.

on our trip my girl struggled with her knee initially during our descent into the canyon, but after that most of our hiking was on the tonto platform, and not so much a problem. any way, i believe you, not the kind of issue you want to deal with there.

What are you planning in Reflection? I was thinking I need to go walk up it, but from everything I can tell it's super short and nothing very interesting. Cottonwood Gulch (the east fork off Reflection) on the other hand is well worth a day or two.
You're right. I mean Cottonwood Gulch. There are some amazing looking Google Earth images. I want to head up the reservoir and then hike all the way up to check it out.

I hope I can carve out five days and go to the Colorado Plateau in April. My main objective this year is to get back into shape after 3 lax years. I'd love a long weekend hike from Bonneville to Marston Passes in the Shoshone and Bridger-Teton National Forests. It's been to many years since I've been to Dunanda Falls, the Northfork of the Buffalo, Ross Lakes, and so many other places I need to get back to. Got to get of my posterior this winter and loose far more pundage than I care to admit.

My biggest dream is 3 weeks on the John Muir Trail - but I'm stuck in logistical overload. Need to email my buddy and get a firm plan in place.

Hope to bag a couple of CA 14ers.

Will do some more local trail clearing trips.

Go skiing if the west side gets some snow.

- Long weekend backpack in Shenandoah NP including Old Rag Mountain

- Finally climb Mount Mansfield in Vermont and Mount Greylock in Massachussets

- Backpack either the Lost Coast Trail in northern CA or Garibaldi Provincial Park in BC - leaning towards the Lost Coast right now but maybe I'll PM @Jeremy C for some Intel on Garibaldi.

- My annual 2-3 day kayak camping trip down the Delaware River

- A few weekends in the White Mountains, NH and maybe venturing a little further north into Maine

- As many impromptu day hikes and overnighters in my local spots as time permits, Catskills, Shawangunks, Kittatinny Mts., etc. Also hope to make it up to some of the Adirondack High Peaks this year since I didn't make it up there this year.
Haha, you pick one of the areas I haven't frequented. Not sure I'd be much help ;)

I have a pen pal in Banff who has been trying to turn me on to the visiting out there. I researched Panorama Ridge and Black Tusk and it looks amazing. Any particular reason you haven't made your way out there yet?

No real reason. Haven't explored much around whistler to be honest. I have spent the bulk of time on the eastern side of the Rockies. But after reading your earlier post I started investigating and have seen enough to get me interested in checking it out as well.

April - Yurt backcountry skiing trip (Bunchgrass or Steam Mill yurt) near Logan.

April - Moab trip to ski the La Sals (if they get the right amount of snow).

May - Squaw Basin

June - Mt. Shasta ski/hiking trip in California

June/July - West Fork Blacks Fork to Highline Trailhead

August - 4 lakes basin to Thomson Lake

September - Henry's fork to Kings Peak and out the Uinta Basin.

I'll start the year by hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

3 Weeks in Iceland-mostly camping! (June) I have a lot of planning to do for that one.

The Maze.

Another Grand Canyon trip will happen-Fishtail Mesa Circumnavigation I believe.

I'd like to do another big trip to the Winds in August-I think I'll do this every August for the foreseeable future.

Other stuff, Steven's again hopefully Maybe make @Nick's dream come true and do a boat to boat backpacking trip.

I'm planning a week long to the Tetons with my scouts if I can get it approved. If not I'll do a week long in the Uintas. I also have a 4 day in the works for the Frank Church area of Idaho. Other than that I told my Scout troop to plan on at least 9 backpacking outings next year.

Since 2014 kicked my ass and turned out be a shitty year overall...not to mention I didn't make my pilgrimage to southern Utah...I am bound and determined to get down there April-May for 3 weeks and recharge.

-Bowdie Canyon. A dream trip of mine is to spend 5-6 days exploring Bowdie to the Colorado, packraft down to Dark Canyon (8 miles of Cataract Canyon), and make it a loop finishing up Youngs Canyon. Backup plan is to just spend some time in Bowdie exploring its nooks and crannies. This area seems overlooked and hard to access...perfect.
-Youngs/Dark/Lean To Canyon loop would suffice if I don't end up packrafting.
-Chute of Muddy Creek. Long shot, but I want to get back in there again while its flowin'. Classic desert float.
-Fiftymile/Davis Gulch loop backpack trip
-I dont go to Utah without a Death Hollow backpack trip thrown in there. I'd like to loop it from the airstrip, using the old Bowington Road option mentioned in one of Steve Allen's books...if I can find it.
-Happy Canyon is also on my list.

Gyrfalcon Lake in Glacier National Park. I've been trying to get there since 2007. Twice I've been permitted to go out there, and had to abort the mission.

Is that part of the plan for our trip there in July, Utah?

I have a winter trip planned for the second week of January here in MI. But most of my local trips are last minute. So not necessarily on the "to do list".

Day hike in and around the Grand Canyon for 2 days in late March.

Overnight in Buckskin Gulch.

Perhaps another park in Southern Utah during the same time frame. Just day hikes and over nighters as my wife loves to hike with me, but not overly fond of multiple days in the tent.

A week in Glacier late July.

10 days in the Gros Venture around Labor Day.

Not sure if I can squeeze in a Teton trip this year or not.....which would be a crying shame!
And the rest I'll make up as I go.
Hoping to share the trail in 2015 with @Joey @scatman and @Absarokanaut

No, that's a different one. Part of a 2 week off trail trip into the North Fork area. Going to be scrambling up around 9 peaks, most of which don't have registers. Your definitely invited if you want to come.

June/July - West Fork Blacks Fork to Highline Trailhead

If you're open to suggestions do this the opposite direction. Going from WFBF to Highline you get all the goods in the beginning. Also, if I can make another suggestion do the upper rock creek basin trail. I don't know the bloom time for the uintas flowers but when I was in late July 2014 it was awesome.

I LOVED this trip!

February - Snow Camp - Probably American Fork Canyon (if we get snow. Dec 11 and the high is 59 today)
March - Moab / Arches NP
April - Fish & Owl Canyons
July - White water rafting on the Snake River
September - Uintas - Probably Clyde Lake loop
October - Goblin Valley & Little Wild Horse Canyon
