It looks like there is a lot of parameters to consider. I bought some inserts about three weeks ago that have arch support. How much do I need - some or a lot? I have a scheduled appointment with an orthopedic recovery doctor who deals with running and cycling injuries on the 11th of January. Hopefully he can evaluate my condition and make some recommendations based upon type of shoe and my feet.

Great idea @scatman ! And be prepared it will take some months to try out different shoes and insoles to figure out what works best for you. How much arch support you need is likely the easiest to figure out with his help.

Good to have you back, but you know the cure for shin splints—it really does work, even if you have to buy a lot of alfalfa cubes. And that hat was doing the BCP salute, not being cranky like you thought.

Boy could I ever use a mule now. :)
And here I was thinking that the alfalfa was for Scatman. That would have made for some interesting episodes of What's Cookin'.

So back in the first week of December, I purchased a used Canon EOS 5D Mark II off of eBay. Today was its maiden voyage with the Scatman on a hike up Van Cott in the early afternoon.

His name is Rocky, which brought to mind the cheesiest pop song from the seventies.

Alone until my eighteenth year, we met four springs ago
She was shy and had a fear of things she did not know,
But we got it on together in such a super way, held each other
Close at night and traded dreams each day, and
[Chorus:]
She said, "Rocky I've never been in love before, don't know if I can do it,
But if you let me lean on you, take my hand I might get through it.
Oh and I said, " Baby oh sweet baby it's love will set us free, and
God knows if the world should end your love is safe with me.

I can't bear to continue.

I couldn't get this song out of my mind the rest of the way down.

Then we ran into a Coyote in Dry Canyon. He started yipping at us. Of course this bought up the Don Edwards tune in my mind.
I was glad to get the sappy Rocky out on my mind. :)

Was a cowboy I knew in south Texas
His face was burnt deep by the sun
Part history, part sage, part mesquit
He was there when Poncho Villa was young
And he'd tell you a tale of the old days
When the country was wild all around
Sit out under the stars of the Milky Way
And listen while the coyotes howl
And they go... hoo yip hoo yip hoo
Hoodi hoo di yip hoo di yip hoo
Hoo yip hoo yip hoo
Hoo di hoo di yip hoo di yip hoo
Now the long horns are gone
And the drovers are gone
The Comanches are gone
And the outlaws are gone
Geronimo is gone
And Sam Bass is gone
And the lion is gone
And the red wolf is gone
Well he cursed all the roads and the oil men
And he cursed the automobile
Said this is no place for an hombre like I am
In this new world of asphalt and steel
Then he'd look off some place in the distance
At something only he could see
He'd say all that's left now of the old days
Those damned old coyotes and me
And they go hoo yip hoo yip hoo
Hoodi hoo di yip hoo di yip hoo
Hoo yip hoo yip hoo
Hoo di hoo di yip hoo di yip hoo
Now the long horns are gone
And the drovers are gone
The comanches are gone
And the outlaws are gone
Now quantro is gone
Stan watie is gone
And lion is gone
And the red wolf is gone
One morning they searched his adobe
He disappeared without even a word
But that night as the moon crossed the mountain
One more coyote was heard
And he'd go, hoo yip hoo yip hoo
Hoodi hoo di yip hoo di yip hoo
Hoo yip hoo yip hoo
Hoo di hoo di yip hoo di yip hoo
Hoo yip hoo yip hoo
Hoodi hoo di yip hoo di yip hoo
Hoo yip hoo yip hoo
Hoo di hoo di yip hoo di yip hoo

Back on the Shoreline Trail with a wonderful view up the Olympus Springs drainage at Broads Fork Twin Peaks

Legend has it that you have to drink an Irish Stout or a shot of Irish Whiskey within 8 hours of meeting a wolfhound on the trail, or else your Irish luck will run out. ☘️ At least that it is what the Leprechaun told me. :) So who am I to argue with a Leprechaun.

The Emerald Isle just had a small earthquake, Scatster, from the sacrilege. Has the English Bulldog ever inspired literature, poetry and mythology?

A four door Jeep sure would make a nice shuttle vehicle at the Brooks Lake Trailhead. Just sayin'.

How are you liking the new camera? Do you know what all those buttons do yet? Maybe you can teach me a thing or two on our next adventure.

Dare I say the Scatman's hair is getting a little length to it. I think you should let it keep growing -- you'll need to use less sunscreen on the back of your neck (but more shampoo for washing). :)

Of course not. :) To me the English Bulldog inspires strength and courage.

After meeting Rocky, I really want an Irish Wolfhound. The owner said that he got it from Ohio. Hint, hint @TractorDoc. :)

I could use a four door Jeep. I haven't got the heart to get rid of my soon to be 30 year old Wrangler though.

The camera is nice. The On/Off switch is in a peculiar place that takes some getting used to. It is quite a bit heavier than my other ones though. The battery is heavier too. Not sure I'd be able to lug it in on long backpacking trips, though shorter ones should be doable. If I paid you a small carrying fee, would you carry it for me? :D

My hair is getting long, which is typical for the winter months. My house is cold, so I need all the hair I can get. I'll shorten it up come late February or early March.

Is that the one you used to have?
No, I could never afford any of the 5D series. I did have a 7DM2 and a 6DM2, but both were too heavy and big for me, so I went to mirrorless (Canon M5, RP and R7). I actually think the old Canon DSLRs are superior cameras in some respects.

No need to get rid of the old Wrangler! In New York State it would qualify for Antique license plates. Just drive it less. :)

Now think I have one of these EOS 5D Mark II cameras. It is in storage but have not used it in some years. Nice camera and takes nice photos. Now days do not take photos after losing some several years ago. Have thought of selling my camera.

Wish I'd known, I'd have bought yours instead. :)

No trespassing @Rockskipper! :)
Is it trespassing if you're a member of the HOA? Do they have a membership roster? What if your brother's a member? Or your mom? Why couldn't you just be a patroller for them - who would know the diff? So many monkeywrenching ways to ponder...

I had those exact same questions. :)
