We'd seen the buck on the side of the "river" but then he disappeared into the bush ... next thing we knew he was swimming across the water, just ahead of us. We quietly canoed up a bit closer & Mrs. kwc got this shot

Savage River Ranger Cabin ... my "home away from home" for a week a couple years ago in Denali National Park - volunteering as a backcountry observer during the last week of moose hunting season. The cabin is on the northern border of the park, bordering on state land where hunting is legal. I believe the cabin is about 10 miles away from McCandless' magic bus.

They call these pontoon boats "party boats". Our triTune (three hulled) ride was an adventure-enabler - much more than just enabling the requisite partying. Imagine Underscore singing to his guitar under the vaulted alcoves of Cathedral in the Desert; the epic place of natural worship long-drowned but newly exposed due to the Glen Canyon Rising!

@Michael and his wife (Mr. and Mrs. Alien from across the pond (Germany)) on their 13th month-long trip to southern Utah 13 years in a row. They rent this RV as their basecamp and then do multiple, multi-day backpacks throughout red rock Utah. They appreciate the american wilderness as much as any american I know. They are down in lower Spencer canyon for three days as I type this out.
