My wife bought a pair for our trip to Ireland last year because, well......it supposed to rain a lot over there. Other than one day, the weather was perfect and she never used them

A few interesting botanical sightings from my recent hikes:


Ceratocystis sp. fungal infection



I had not seen this morphology of the parasitic plant, Arceuthobium douglasii, before. It looks very similar to coniferous tree foliage, but with a significantly reduced amount of chlorophyll.

That one looks a lot like lightning damage.

I saw one in France this spring with the entire motor housing burnt up (probably caused by fire) but it was still in one piece.
