South canyon hike to the Grand Canyon. A steep and rocky hike to a beautiful set of beaches and Vasey's Paradise. P1020541.JPG

I was staying one night. Kept my pack-an ultralight-to 20 lbs with a gallon of water fully loaded. I was really glad as there were scrambles which would have been difficult with a big pack.

Down to a whole lot of boulders of varying sizes.

Several bypasses for dryfalls.

The trail leaves the canyon to skirt upward and around.

First glimpse of the Colorado takes you by surprise.

I did carry some webbing with me, just in case I needed to take my pack off for climbs. Right when I was going to pull it out, the last ramp was there. The top was in sight!

Wow! Definitely off the beaten path here. I imagine that not many people go here that aren't in a raft. Some of those trails look a little sketchy. Great trip report and photos. Thanks!

thanks for sharing. looks like a lot of fun.

Nice TR and pics. How much vert did you do and what trailhead?

Elevation gain/loss was 2656. The start and finish were steep and had small climbs with good handholds. I took the traditional route (South Canyon off of House Rock Road then road 632) as I was solo and had a backpack. The hikers I met on the beach took the "UPS route". They said it cut off a lot of boulder hopping but it is steeper.
