Not looking good for the Alberta Rockies, thus far:

This graph is pretty representative of all the stations that I looked at, and is even lower at this point than last winter, which was dry until recovering into the normal range due to spring snowfalls.

A few last photos before I return home to Colorado - and even worse head to Texas for work. Decided to ski up/down Signal Mountain in GTNP today. Didn't see another soul, which was quite a treat in an area that can be so busy in the summer - easily my favorite part of winter visits.

higher elevations. The highest peaks will see closer to three
feet. Winds gusting 35 to 45 mph could create blowing snow issues.

* WHERE...Big Hole Mountains, Centennial Mountains - Island Park,
Bear Lake Valley, Bear River Range, Blackfoot Mountains, Caribou
Range, and Marsh and Arbon Highlands.

* WHEN...From 11 AM Friday to 5 AM MST Sunday.

Whatever happened to ski season?

In the foothills, biking has taken over as the drought continues.

Close to the spine of the rockies, the xc skiing has been generally good, despite a near record low snowfall in January.

Yesterday at Peter Lougheed Provincial Park. The grooming was in good shape, but the glazed tracks are FAST!:

A oncoming change in the weather pattern is looking to bring only a minimal amount of snow, but at least it's going to be COLD.

Touring the Campbell Icefield was a highlight of our recent backcountry lodge week.

A weak snowpack that continues to be way below normal, and a persistently dangerous avalanche hazard ( 2 separate fatalities on the same day, a week ago) have kept us out of the backcountry, but at least the spring xc skiing has been very good, as our season begins to wind down.
