Advantages:
1-gets you up out of the bottom of the bed for sleeping. Better air and views
2-60 gallons of out of the way secure storage, water proof, dust proof, rodent proof
3-easily removed and reinstalled
4-lightweight
5-simple, low skill construction

Materials:
1-plastic totes of a suitable size and height
2-one sheet of smooth 1/2 inch plywood
3-piano hinge
4-5’x7’ piece of outdoor carpet
5-stainless steel staples

Really nice job. I had a similar system (not as well done) in my Toyota T100. I lived and travelled in it for one summer and I still miss the simplicity of it all, especially the awesome views with the back open. It's a great way to travel - I even spent a few nights in places one couldn't normally sleep otherwise, like the night in the Starbuck's parking lot in Missoula. You just slip out in the morning, close it up, and drive off. Better than any big ole RV.

Is that first photo the Winds out by Pinedale?

Nice. I have a gofast coming in July. Still kicking around ideas for the bed.

Hope this was of use. Really love the bare bones simplicity.

@Rockskipper You are correct. Same view as from 191 but I’m out in the sage SW of Buckskin Crossing. Used to be fishing on the Big Sandy near there but Game and Fish is managing for suckers. FYI the last picture is from along the upper Green. Thankfully there is still fishing there.

There was a pretty nice sunset the evening before that sunrise.
