Sierra weather - mid-September

Wife & I are planning a later summer vacation. While it won't be totally backcountry driven, I am hoping to convince her that a night or two under the stars isn't a bad thing. We're looking at a few days in San Fran followed by a trip either into Yosemite or to Lake Tahoe (and Desolation Wilderness).

What can I expect for weather around 9/15? Cold (~32* F) nights? Thanks in advance.

Yosemite will be nice at 5,000 feet or so. Chilly nights but not unbearable, days most likely warm (and can be hot). I don't know the elevation of Lake Tahoe, that makes all the difference.
