Sawtooths, Baron Creek and Goat Creek, July 2014

Greetings from Brooklyn! Starting 9/14 three of us spent 7 days traversing from Grandjean to Pettit Lake. We got a late start the 1st day, so we camped at the N Fork Baron Creek junction. After that we camped at Baron Lake, Middle Cramer Lake, Vernon Lake (2 nights, better than Edna), and Twin Lakes. If you don't mind paying for the shuttle*, starting at Grandjean is the best way to ease into the elevation, and we enjoyed the gradual change in scenery. We saw fewer than 20 people in 7 days, and the weather was near perfect. Here's the first batch of photos: http://randakag.smugmug.com/Sawtooths-2014/n-QTr4p/. Enjoy!

Bob, looks like the Baron Lakes side in the back ground there. each of those pictures are from the same route i came up. we probably came up to the same saddle below from opposite sides.

That's what I thought. We looked at your route and went the other, was easier looking. In my 3rd pic, Baron lks just to the left of my head. The somewhat timbered saddle just above my head is where you hit coming up the Alpine lk side. You cut off at the last switchback above Alpine Lk, head around the bowl to that saddle. Mostly grassy, some timber all the way to that point.....no scree fields. By this time we had enough of scree fields.... :)
