My wife and I are spending the long holiday weekend at Flaming Gorge. I was getting a little day hike this afternoon when I got an exciting surprise. I saw a sow bear *and* her tiny cub. I manged to get a few seconds of video...
I had just come up the trail past where you see them cross when I heard something a few yards below me on the mountain side. I wasn't sure what it was at first then recognized it as a bear. Within a second or two she became aware of my presence and made a mad dash along the mountain away from me parallel to the trail. I spent a quick couple of seconds debating whether to grab the gun or the mobile phone. My gut reaction was that she didn't want to have anything to do with me so I opted for the phone. She came up the trail and stopped there for a second or two to see what I was up to. As she starting to continue up hill I managed to get these few seconds of her and her cub. Pretty exciting to say the least! And get this .... the creek along which I was hiking is named Cub Creek
