I took a trip up San Jacinto peak this weekend. It was a great climb, with 3 inches of fresh snow above 9,000ft. I got to test some of my new gear, and shake off my equipment for a Mt Whitney climb coming up. Read more about my trip here.

Here are a few of my favorite pictures from the trip:

Just out of curiosity, what's the trailhead elevation and distance to the summit?

That view from the top is fantastic. Is the trailhead in Idylwild or maybe at the top of the tram? It ranks as one of the most majestic mountains I've seen due to the straight rise from the valley floor.

The Deer Springs trail I took was out of Idylwild.

Great! San Jacinto has one of the the largest "prominences" in the United States. The distance from the base of the peak to the summit is greater than almost all. Great job climbing it with a pack.

Nowhere is that more apparent than after you've come "down the mountain" on Hwy62 from the Morongo Basin. You come around the last curve and there it is. Like a sentinel in the distance. It's breathtaking.
