I got three permits for Paria Canyon on June 10th for 4 days. The two people I was supposed to go with already backed out so I might have two openings if someone is interested.

I know there is some minor quicksand in the canyon but can't seem to find out in what stretch(as) so I can be cognizant of it. Anyone have a clue about where it is most likely in the canyon to be found? Upper, middle, lower?

Also looking to climb up Kelseys "North Rim " Indian route across from Wrather to check it out, maybe just up to the boulder jam he shows in his book. Highs should only be in the low 90's

Hope you have a FANTASTIC time - we loved Paria!!! We were there in June 2014. If you have more questions, don't hesitate to ask.

We ran into quicksand, and it turned out to be rather entertaining since it wasn't too deep (at least where we were) and no one stayed stuck for long. If you're concerned about it, use trekking poles (I highly recommend them anyway) and poke often in the muddy spots. Hard to tell you exactly where we were, but I can say it was in the middle, on the afternoon and evening of our 2nd day. (To give you a sense of our pace, we started at Wire Pass and stayed at the Paria/Buckskin confluence the 1st night and did 3 more nights after that, with the final night being almost at the end.)

This photo is my son when he ended up in it that afternoon.

This photo is where I got stuck that evening while cleaning off my son's stuff. I was in only up to my calves so didn't feel too worried (except my shoe was stuck and I wanted it back). Our group was quite entertained by this!
