New to camping and need advice on a backpacking tent

The Stoic is a very nice tent for the money. We picked up the 2 and 3 man versions mainly for car camping and loaners for friends. Kids tear stuff up like crazy and I just don't trust a $400+ Big Agnes tent with them. My friends and I have owned several and as was mentioned above, the way they cut the weight is by having paper thin (for kid use) floors and tiny/weak zippers. I picked up the 2 man for $65 shipped to my door and the 3 man for $90. For those prices you won't find a better made tent and I can deal with the extra weight (remember that also includes a heavy ground cloth) and not worry about the kids destroying the tents.

Edit: That tarptent is sweet and pretty bomber with the cross poles. Tarptent materials are much stronger than Big Agnes stuff. The sil-nylon that Henry uses is tough stuff even though it's light. I also love that his tents are dry setup tents so if you have to setup and take down during rain it keeps the inside somewhat dry.

Well I purchased a tent and got to use it for the first time this weekend on a 3 night trip at raystown lake. I ended up spending a little more then I wanted to but I feel I got a tent that will fulfill my needs for many years to come. I ended up going with the tarptent hogback. All the guys I was camping with loved it. And I loved it. I was set up in half the time as the other guys with traditional two man tents. It weighs 4 lbs. and the materials they used to make the tent seem like a great quality. It rained a couple different times and there was not a drop inside of the tent. If you are thinking about purchasing a tent from tarptent don't hesitate. It was a very pleasant experience.

Nice!

I did order the optional cross pole for when I know it will be necessary. It was raining when I took the tent down this morning and the inside stayed perfectly dry. Set it up when I got back home to let it dry out. Now it's packed and ready for the next adventure. I also got to use my big agnes deer park 30 bag and thermarest pad for the first time. I slept better then I do in my own bed :)

Good choice going with tarptent. I have a stratospire in the mail headed my way as as speak.

Did you seam seal it yourself, or pay the $30 to have Henry do it for you?

I did it myself. I did buy the $7 kit just so I got the consistency I was supposed to have. It was my first time and it was so easy. There was enough to do two coats. I would recommend doing it yourself.
