I think backcountrypost is going to outlast backcountry.com

I was sad to see Kirkhams go too.

I bought my Springbar tent (The Euro) at Kirkhams. It weighs over sixty pounds. I haven't used it in probably ten years.
Probly lighter now ... The moths may have found it

REI's liberal return policy has been a benefit to me so I don't mind paying a bit more for something expensive that may not work out. It was also nice to have a store in Jackson, Wy as well when I needed extra or replacement gear on vacation. Smaller stores in the area just don't have the inventory.

I have cottage gear too, but the buy-before-you-try model has cost me extra in return shipping fees. But, it's a tough business. EMS went under not long ago as well.

Just a heads up Backcountry’s got some good end of season deals right now depending on what you need/want. It’s not all fashion wear.

Spend less money, help them go belly up that much quicker if it suits you ;)

I’m on a buy nothing binge right now.

Pretty sure I’m geared up till wheelchair age, barring the addition of yet another outdoor pursuit…

You're kidding ....right?!?

My curation has limits, and those are solid brands. Don’t be a gear snob. You act like you’re camping under a ten dollar tarp from home depot that doubles as your pack.

@Bob reminds me of my grandpa, who was a game warden in NW Colorado. I still have a huge canvas coat he wore with the game warden insignias on the shoulders, lined with something that looks like bisonhair or maybe horsehair. It went down to his knees. That coat probaby saved him from many a bear because they thought he was one of them. I suspect it could also double as a tent when needed.

I'm guessing this is a good thing.... I once had a coat like they wore in the Matrix (similar) Was working ski races at Aspen and needed a long coat while I was skiing cause I dyed the lines by the flags in rhe snow, the dye would go everywhere, so the racers could see .....they called me the Matrix dude.....
