Hidden Eagle Traverse (Teton/Washakie Wilderness & Yellowstone NP) - July 2025

Now what a Great Great Great Trip you had. Thanks Bigtime for this Trip Report and all the photos. Have not had time to comment before. You saw so much Great and Remote Country on this trip. It brings back some wonderful wonderful memories. How much do I miss this Great Country! Looks like you had some really great weather also. But so much country in just a few days. If it was myself, this would have lasted weeks and weeks with just getting back into some of those places and just live with the land for awhile. Have many times have come here and looked over your photos time after time. Am older now so it must be nice to still be young when one can do so much in a day. Best to You and Thanks Again! Again Just Wonderful!!!!

I must say that this turned out to be my favorite trip report of 2025. Excellent job @TheMountainRabbit! If I could have "Loved" this one 40 times I would have. I have taken the time to go through it again and again since it was posted and have waited to respond until the last day of the year. It not only brings me joy because it is one of my favorite areas, but is also bittersweet because I'm not sure if your route is in my wheel house anymore. So there seems to be a bit of reality setting in for me these days.

For some reason the lyrics of Jackson's Browne's "These Days" comes to mind.

"These Days"

Well I've been out walking
I don't do that much talking these days
These days-
These days I seem to think a lot
About the things that I forgot to do
And all the times I had the chance to

And I had a lover
It's so hard to risk another these days
These days-
Now if I seem to be afraid
To live the life I have made in song
Well it's just that I've been losing so long

I'll keep on moving
Things are bound to be improving these days
These days-
These days I sit on corner stones
And count the time in quarter tones to ten, my friend
Don't confront me with my failures
I had not forgotten them

The view above the falls is everything that I'd thought it would be. I'm glad you were able to find a way to the top. I was trying to picture your descent off of Hawk's Rest in my mind. I used to like that kind of thing. Actually I still do it's just that I'm afraid I'd get stuck in the middle of it and couldn't get out now. :)

Scatman might be a little to plump to get through that tube to get to the summit of Eagle Peak these days - surely there is an alternate route to the top? Maybe if I removed my kilt and someone greased me up around my beer handles, tied a rope around my waist and pulled me through I might just make it. :D

Did you happen to hear a faint echo of a cry out of pain as you crossed the North Fork of Butte Creek? Rumor has it that if the wind is calm and silence is at a peak, then you might be able to hear it. :)

Again thanks for taking us along on a wonderful trip. I'm sure I'll be returning to this one multiple times in the future.
