I've been away for a number of years haven't really been out as much as I had hoped either. But I am back and ready to rock and roll! I'm located in Calgary, Alberta Canada and am primarily a hiking photographer, but a mad photographer now being a large format film photographer. Picked that up last year during our lockdown and managed to put 135km of alpine hiking with the wooden camera! This year I decided I would try my best to get up to 250km and see what comes out of that! Mostly going to be sticking around the Rockies of Southern Alberta which is my stomping ground with travel still out of reach for a bit. Glad to be back and looking forward to chatting and engaging going forward!

Welcome back. I'd like to hear about your film setup. I did a little large format B&W in the early 90s, every once in a while I think it would be fun to develop film again, and then reality hits :)

Please post some photos and trips reports, I'd like to hear about backpacking with with a field camera, sounds insane and fun at the same time :)

Howdy neighbour! Fellow Calgarian here- I'll be keeping my eye out for you in the hills.

Thanks! Yea I switched back to film in 2018 with a few different medium format bodies that were great fun and a lot more challenging to my process (in a good way). Then last year when the lockdown hit I lucked out and got a great deal on a Chamonix 45f-2. So I only carry 2 lenses in the long trips (ultra wide and normal) with a couple of film holders. Unfortunately last year I had no real idea how to pack right hehe so it was like a 45-50lbs pack. So this year I cut it down to the following which is 17lbs pre water and food. And I’m getting more comfy with it so far!

That 45f-2 is a beauty. What a nice setup. Do you have an Instagram? I’d love to see more of your photos

Welcome.
Beautiful camera.
Just wondering, how do you change your film in the field? That was always a pain, using a changing bag.
Do you develop your film yourself?

I only carry 4 shots when hiking actually soooo it really focuses things down hehe. But yea I usually have my dark bag at camp and will change film there. So I’ll bring 1 or 2 empty boxes for bw and colour neg and then take the 2 film holders out. I do develop at home for at least my bw and colour neg film. I send my slide film out if I ever shoot any of that.
