Guess the spot

It's been a couple weeks, maybe a clue is in order. (I thought this one would be easy). Clue = this is in one of the largest single blocks of federally designated Wilderness in the Rocky Mountains.

Nice shot. I've wanted to float the John Day for years now. Ok, next up: Name the drainage, creek, or ranked peak in the far distance.

That looks a bit like Pingora Peak.... but the other mountains behind it don't look right. There are lots of 'cones' shaped like that in that area of the Winds. Let me try to get a bead on the other peaks in the background.... EDIT: Yeah, that's definitely not it. After looking at my photos, I think that's not even close. But I feel like I should know this one. Dagnabbit.

This is not in the Wind Rivers (way too lush for the Winds!). Not in Wyoming at all. And not Vestal Basin either, but....

How about New York Basin in the Weminuche with the Eolus Group in the background ? Not entirely sure since I have not been there.

Ok, this one is turning into a month long with no correct answers. I think I'll give this one to @mike_offerman since he was the first to guess somewhere in the Weminuche, although on the wrong side of the Vallecito drainage. This is Rock Creek looking southeast at "Weminuche Peak" in the distance and Buffalo Peak (the Pingora-looking peak) on the right middle.

The hint about the Oregon and Mormon trails made it pretty easy. I must admit, though, that the only time I saw it up close was from a B-25. P1020998.JPG

And for the next spot, name the pass I'm standing in

Dreamer, I get the feeling you've been there before! You're up next.

At least once that you know about personally, anyways. Actually that was my first pass on my first hike in the Winds back in ‘01, and I’ve probably been through there around 8 times since. That’s a tricky angle in your pic. Would be fun to try that ramp up Mt. Hooker. I never thought that I’d guess one of these.

Name the pass, the drainage, or the mountain.1000F541-9578-483A-B77E-CA6C5230EE1B.jpeg
