I have not been there, as I was thwarted that trip by getting really sick... but Scorup cabin and Horse Pasture Canyon?

That's it! The hike down into Horse Pasture from Elk Ridge is highly recommended.

USGS benchmark elevation of this striking butte?

It's a hard one, so the first hints:

- Like Ugly's pic it is also sunrise

- We are camped way up a side drainage on the untravelled 'wrong' side of a well known large canyon. The other rim of this canyon is the sunlit cliff section in the center distance

No! 5170 is along the Baker trail.

Here it is again from an earlier trip. I studied the terrain from this vantage point and knew I had to walk those Wingate benches sometime

Hint: the pass behind and just right of the summit leads to the head of another iconic canyon
