Hi everyone! Really grateful to have found this site. It looks like a treasure trove of information.

I presently live near Ft. Wayne, IN but I’m about a year away from building a place in SW Montana, and because “Big Sky Boiler” sounds much cooler than “Ft. Wayne Boiler,” that’s what I went with, even though it’s a bit premature.

I’m an avid day hiker and love hitting the trails of Yellowstone, Grand Teton, RMNP, and generally anywhere, but especially in the west. I’ll be looking to do some backpacking once I’m local. The Yellowstone Thorofare Trail is a bucket list item for me.

Headed to YNP in a couple weeks for a far-too-brief stay en route to another destination, but hope to find a couple passable trails while there for a long weekend.

Look forward to chatting with everyone.

Welcome to the forum from another SW Montana resident. Still more than a little snow in the high country around here. This was from last Sunday:

It's a paradise for hikers. Once you're local, you'll have endless trails at your doorstep. The Thorofare is a beast, but absolutely worth the dream.
You’re not kidding. There’s a fabulous trail literally a mile from my property. It leads to that lake in my profile photo (Sheep Lake). I’m headed out there in a week, but will only be around for about 3 days. I’m going to try to find a trail or two in the park that’s passable. Beaver Ponds may be OK, and I’m optimistic that some of the trails in Lamar Valley will be also. Not planning to lug my camera along on this trip, but will post anything I can capture on my phone when I’m back.

From a born and raised Hoosier now in SW MT, welcome!
Thanks! You found a place with even harsher winters! Honestly, we’d stay full time if we could, but our place will unfortunately not be accessible in the winter.

What part of Indiana are your from?

Born in Richmond and lived there until i was 9, then spent the rest of my childhood in Noblesville.

Never spent much time in your neck of the woods. Went up there a few times for cross country meets, but that's about it!
