Had the day off today, so I decided to hike up Grandeur. We've had a cold spell here in Salt Lake, and the temperature at the Church Fork Trailhead was a cozy 19 degrees this morning. :cold: When I go to the summit, I switched out lenses to a wide angle one, and used it on the way down.

Trail crew please. @Rockskipper, get somebody on this. And why is there a stream
running down the middle of the trail. Both are unacceptable. :)

08.jpg
A little frozen waterfall on the stream that is not supposed to be there

White out! :D

Mount Olympus. I bet it's cold at the summit.

Sunshine on my shoulder makes me happy! Red rock along the trail.

A different kind of red

Can finally see the summit up there

Deer track!

And there is the culprit above. There were actually three of them heading up the trail.

23.jpg
First real good look to the north

24.jpg
And a good view of downtown Salt Lake with Antelope Island beyond

25.jpg
Who put this steep section here? :)

First view of the southern end of the valley, as I make my ay around to the west side of Grandeur

It looked to me like these two dead trees were dancing.

Time for a Scatman snack at the top

Wide angle shots from this point on.

Looking east towards Church Fork Peak and Mount Aire. Also Millvue Peak, and way in the distance Murdock Peak can just be made
out. You'd think that ridge would be easy to traverse?

A look into the upper Church Fork Drainage

37.jpg
A peek at downtown again

I think I see a Scat shadow in this one. :)

Wabbit tracks!

The Sube awaits with 29 degrees at 1:20 in the afternoon.

The End

Wow - what gorgeous scenery! I love the beautiful blue sky behind the fabulous peaks, ridges, and lumpy mountains. (What's a better way of saying lumpy mountains?) Plus the beautiful red leaf lying on its white carpet. What a great way to spend your Veterans Day holiday!

Like the white out pic ....... Is that a face plant ad well?

I did look twice at that white out one. Can you make up a good story to go with that?!

Lumpy mountains works for me. :)

How about operator error. If I take a shot, but forget to take my finger off the focus/take picture button, then occasionally I get an image that is vastly overexposed. Or see the Yeti explanation above. :)

It would've been a good story if he'd said Bigfoot, but to believe he went into the Himalayas, which is where Yeti lives, is kind of stretching it a bit, eh?

Great day hike and brilliant photography as usual! The White-out shot just spurs the imagination...

@Rockskipper, you're just not thinking like a Scatman. It's like this you see. If it is in the snow, then you have a Yeti. If it's in the rainforest of the Pacific Northwest, then obviously Bigfoot. Anywhere else and you are dealing with a Sasquatch. Clear as mud? :D

You forgot the Yowie (Australia). Too bad you didn't get a photo. REI is having a big sale - Yeti chairs half price (still expensive).

Hey @Rockskipper, now I know why I was running from them. :)

I was doing an urban jungle hike this morning and saw this in the rear window of a pickup truck. I also saw this near my house on my way back.
