Grand Canyon / Southern Utah help

Greetings. This coming March (3-23 / 4-4) my bride and I are flying out to Vegas with the intention of heading East to the Grand Canyon for 2 or 3 days then heading North to Southern Utah.

We will be doing mostly day hikes but I can get her to spend a few nights in a tent with me if I'm nice. Buckskin Gulch was suggested and we will likely turn that in to an over nighter. Any other thoughts on the GC or any of the parks in Utah would be great!

if you're on the south rim grand canyon, horseshoe mesa from grandview point makes a pretty fantastic day hike, or over night. there's some really cool old trail construction, an old miner's cabin down on the mesa, and tons of old miners' leavings, nails, glass, cans, and assorted other rusty pieces of metal all over the place. and really incredible views of the eastern grand canyon. it's about three miles down to the mesa top, but it is like 2500' gain hiking back up. not bad with day packs. and it really is the nature of the canyon. i've got a couple trip reports that cover there. you'll see people on the trail, but not a lot. nothing compared to the corridor trails.




buckskin gulch is nice, and worth it, we did a day hike there this fall.

if you're going to zion, i'd recommend the hike to angels landing as a relatively easy high pay off day hike. but there are other good hikes from the valley floor there, observation point, hidden canyon, and so on. i'm sure some of the experts will be even more helpful regarding utah here.

Thanks Ben! Yes we are staying on the south rim. I have reservations there.

I just got a crap load of maps and need to start planning how it's going to go down. Like we would have suggested on the other site, I intend to do a lot of reading here too.

This is all new for me as I don't tent to venture far from the Midwest and the Northwest corner of Wyoming.

I am with Ben, go to Horseshoe Mesa!!!!! if you can get a permit, it's heaven in an overnight
