Montezuma's treasure in the Uintas, guarded by members of the Ute tribe? This may be a fairy tale, it does seem to go pretty far down into the rabbit hole, but it is very interesting nonetheless. A co-worker recently clued me in on this story. Has anyone else read anything on this is the past? If you guys could bring Survivor Man down, this would be right up the alley of BCP.

Rumor was the LDS church in the early days had a gold mine in the Uintas that is now 'lost' as well....... until it is needed again.

I knew a pretty awesome guy with the last name of Murdock- a distant relative of "Pick" Murdock that you hear of so prominently in tales of Utah mining history. He said that George Thompson was pretty full of it and that he'd purposely change information to throw people off track. So collect the gold so to speak from those who bought his books, but throw them off once they get out in the mountains.

Fascinating stuff. I think any mines though have been found more by being stumbled upon than by people out deliberately searching.

If you happen to find one when you're out there, just remember:
1. Take a few bars with you. You'll probably never be able to get them otherwise.
2. Ask yourself if you really want the government to be involved if you publicize things.

+1  Don't tell, take small amounts over time..... haha
